“Katy was with me for the homebirths of all three of my children. I can’t imagine the whole process of creating a family without her. Her support for women and families is steady, certain, and intelligent; her method is to identify and amplify the desires, strength and wisdom of those she serves. Through her care, I discovered not only my own power and unlimitied capacity to love, but an enduring wonder toward the incredible power of birthing people and midwifery care. As the daughter of a physician and longtime client of the American medical system, I can say with certainty that the attentive, compassionate, informed care that Katy’s clients receive is really an entirely different experience from what we’ve come to expect from healthcare. I looked forward to every prenatal and postpartum appointment, certain I would learn something new, find solace for my concerns or physical discomforts, hear a good joke, and really be listened to. Pregnancy and birth and the family that ensues, have been some of the most important and transformative experiences of my life (that’s likely a somewhat universal statement); I feel grateful that mine were undertaken at the side of such a calm and caring midwife.

At some point during the last hours of my first labor, exhausted, a little scared and discouraged, I looked up from the edge of the birth tub and found Katy’s face there, sure, kind, and unwavering. ‘I don’t know if I can do this’, I told her. ‘You can. You already are doing it’, she replied. They were, as ever, the just right words at the right time.
